FULL BIOGRAPHY

Teineisha "Luna Red" Richards is an Afro-Indigenous R&B, soul, and contemporary pop artist from Bear River First Nation in Mi'kma'ki (Nova Scotia). An official showcasing artist for Nova Scotia Music Week 2026 and recent performer at the East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs), Luna Red is emerging as a distinctive voice in Atlantic Canada's music scene. Known for her soulful vocals, powerful storytelling, and dynamic live performances, she creates music that blends contemporary R&B, soul, and pop with themes of cultural identity, motherhood, healing, and empowerment.

Born and raised in Toronto (Tkaronto), Luna Red's artistry reflects a powerful fusion of her Mi'kmaq and Afro-Jamaican heritage. A multidisciplinary artist with roots in both music and dance, she began her creative journey through urban dance culture and live performance in the Greater Toronto Area. Today, her work explores womanhood, resilience, community, self-discovery, and ancestral connection while creating space for audiences to feel seen, connected, and inspired.

Since relocating to Bear River First Nation, Luna Red has deepened her connection to culture and community, shaping a new chapter in her artistic voice. As a mother, her work is increasingly informed by themes of matriarchy, legacy, nurturing, and intergenerational strength. These experiences have become central to her songwriting, resulting in music that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Her 2023 EP, Journey To Self, introduced listeners to an emotionally grounded sound through songs such as "Runnin'," "Rise Up," "Culture," and "Divine," establishing her as an artist committed to meaningful storytelling and personal transformation.

In 2025 and 2026, Luna Red expanded her presence within the East Coast music industry through participation in the Mi'kmaq Artist Emergence Program (MAEP), showcasing performances at Nova Scotia Music Week, and appearances at the East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs), where she performed as part of multiple showcases and industry events. She has also served as a mentor within MAEP, supporting the next generation of Indigenous artists.

Her forthcoming EP marks a bold evolution in her sound, blending contemporary R&B, soul, pop, and live performance energy with themes of cultural memory, motherhood, identity, healing, and empowerment. Developed in collaboration with JUNO Award-winning songwriter and producer Corey Le Rue and Adrian Morris of internationally touring Canadian pop act Neon Dreams, the project showcases Luna Red's growth as both a songwriter and performer while remaining deeply rooted in her lived experience.

Luna Red's music has received radio support from CBC Afterdark, CBC The Block, IndigiVERSE Radio, and U.S. independent radio stations. Her work has also been featured by Tinnitist, Canadian Beats, BUZZ Music LA, Fresh Hip Hop N RNB, and CTV News.

Whether performing on festival stages, at industry showcases, or in community spaces, Luna Red brings audiences an experience grounded in authenticity, connection, and cultural pride. Looking ahead, she is focused on the release of her upcoming EP, expanding into national and international touring opportunities, securing sync placements in film, television, and media, and developing future full-length album projects that continue to amplify Afro-Indigenous stories through contemporary music.
